Water pollution and its current situation in Mexico

1. Water is a component of our nature that has been present in the earth for more than 3,000 million years, occupying three quarters of the surface of the planet. Its nature is composed of three atoms, two oxygen atoms that together form a water molecule, H2O, the minimum unit in which it can be found. It is vitally important for the existence of life.

2. Water is in rivers, lakes, oceans, water tables, glaciers and in the atmosphere. SWEET WATER SALT WATER 0.77% is water 1.76% is 97.47% sweet of the earth’s crust in glaciers. it’s salt water

3. Water is found in humans from 65% to 75%, it is in the blood, in the saliva, in our cells in our organs, in the tissues and also in the bones. In most of the living beings it is present in more than 50%.

4. Water is a vital resource for life and support for the economic and social development of any country in the world, fundamental for ecosystems and a prerequisite for the sustainability of the environment and its biodiversity. The natural distribution of water at the global and regional level is uneven: while in some regions it is abundant, in others it is scarce or non-existent.

5. The reasons why the water suffers alterations and is contaminated are several. There are chemical and petroleum wastes, domestic waste, agricultural waste, livestock, among others. Some examples of pollution are petroleum sewage, wastewater, pollution (garbage and waste) in rivers, lakes and seas, etc.

6. The two parameters that allow to evaluate the water quality are the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) and the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Measures the amount of organic matter susceptible to seroxidase by chemical means in a liquid sample. It is used to measure the degree of contamination and is expressed in mg O2 / liter.

7. The industry generates a pollutant load of 9.5 million tons of BOD5, of which only 1.01 million tons are removed in the industrial wastewater treatment systems.

8. Industrial waste can be in liquid form such as acids, oils and chemicals. Or in solid form like metals, glass and plastics.

9. Wastewater generated in urban centers contains 2.17 million tons of DBo5 (data for 2003); of these, 1.73 million tons are collected in the municipal drainage and only 0.51 million tons are removed in the treatment systems.

10. Pollution by crude oil or refined petroleum is generated accidentally or deliberately from different sources. Some researchers believe that oil pollution comes from ship-vessel accidents and leakage from marine drilling equipment; however, almost 50% of the oil that reaches the seas and oceans comes from the mainland, from that is thrown to the ground by people in cities and industrial areas that are then dragged by river currents to end up in the oceans mas Contaminacion Del Agua.
